In these days, the Prior Provincial fr Leslie Gatt O.S.A. is visiting the Augustinian friars in Brazil. Amongst these friars there are still three Brazilian Friars who, after the establishment of the Augustinian Province of Brazil ten years ago, remained affiliated with the Province of Malta while working in the new Province of Brazil.

In 1962 the Maltese Friars started the missionary work of the Maltese Augustinian Province in Brazil and over the years they worked in various parishes in different states of such a huge country. With the help of many Maltese benefactors, the maltese friars, built churches, priories and even a house of formation. Several Spanish Augustinians were also working in Brazil and with time, native Brazilian vocations began to increase. Ten years ago the Maltese delegation supported fully the process of the foundation of the new Province of Brazil and handed over all the initiatives the new Province.

In these days the Prior Provincial met with his counterpart in the Province of Brasil, P. Mauricio Jose Manosso Rocha O.S.A. and he is also having meetings with the Brazilian friars who are affiliated in the Province of Malta. He is also visiting the different realities in which the Maltese worked and also several projects of the Brazilian Province including several colleges.

The Intermediate Provincial Assembly 2024 came to an end through a celebration of the Eucharist with the participation of a good number of lay people, at the Parish Church of Saint Augustine, Valletta. The mass in which we celebrated the liturgy of the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Augustine, was presided over by the Prior Provincial Fr Leslie Gatt, while the Assistant to the Prior General Fr Javier Perez Barba delivered the homily.

Earlier in the afternoon, the friars gathered in Saint Augustine Hall, where the Acts of the Provincial Assembly were read and approved. Following their approval, Fr Javier thanked the Friars who participated actively in the discussions and all those who worked in the organisation of these meetings bringing the Assembly to a formal closure.

During these days the Augustinian friars held various meetings in which they evaluated their presence and mission in Malta,  and discussed the challenges and the way forward.

From Monday 22, to Wednesday 24 April, the Augustinian Friars of the Maltese Province will gather for the Intermediate Provincial Assembly at The Santa Rita Priory in Saint Julians. The Assembly is a moment in which the friars evaluate their life and mission, particularly in the past two years, and discuss today's challenges and the way forward.

The three days of the Assembly close with a mass on Wednesday 24 April, Feast of the Conversion of Saint Augustine at the Parish Church of Saint Augustine in Valletta at 7.15pm. The mass is open to all those who wish to join at this moment and give thanks to the Lord for everything he does with the Augustinian friars and through them in the realities they serve. After the mass refreshments will be served in the Priory.

For the last 30 years AMIGOS has offered several young people a missionary experience, in Brazil, Mozambique and Kenya. This year a group of 7 young people together with Fr Mario Abela osa (director of the secretariat) are preparing themselves to do some missionary work in Mozambique. We continue to pray for them and help them in this work that they will do this summer thanks to our donations.
